Alisa Valentin, M.S.
Degrees and background: 

Alisa Valentin is a PhD. student in the Communication, Culture and Media Studies Department at Howard University. She is a teaching assistant in Howard’s Principles of Speech program, a graduate assistant for the Howard Journal of Communications, and the chair of the CCMS Graduate Student Association. Her research interests include communication policy, race and gender representation in media, and the role of social media in social justice movements.  

She received her MS in journalism from the Medill of School of Journalism at Northwestern University in and her BS in telecommunications from University of Florida. While at the Medill School of Journalism, she produced her first documentary, "50: America's Historic School Closing," which was later nominated for a National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award in the Chicago/Midwest chapter. She is a former broadcast journalist specializing in urban affairs reporting.
