Vertical integration accelerated by digital technology

Mapping Digital Media, a 364-page report published in July 2014 by the Open Society Foundations, examined the problems and possibilities for new forms of journalism in the digital world.  Among other things, the study found that “Although it was expected to create space for more players and voices, digitization has been almost everywhere an engine for faster consolidation and vertical integration, reinforcing the familiar problems of media markets” (p. 13).  Read more at
